The Course!

There are several competitions to choose from in the 5K and 10K runs and walks at no extra cost. After choosing your distance, feel free to sign up for all the categories you qualify for. For instance, if your company is in the Fittest Firm Contest, sign up for it and join them. If you also are a military veteran, sign up for that too. And if you also will be wearing a costume, check that category. Most of all, enjoy some exercise with your community and know that you are helping contribute to the four wonderful local charities: Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, the Housing Trust Silicon Valley, the Healthier Kids Foundation of Santa Clara County and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz.

The 5K, 10K and 10K Wheelchair will all begin at Santa Clara Street just west of Market Street. There will be multiple wave starts within each of the 10K and the 5K races. The race is chipped timed so your time will start when you cross the starting line mat. When the gun fires, the first corral will be released. The rest of the participants will be held at the starting line. At pre-determined intervals the next corral will be released.

Sanctioned Event Logos_2010

Your wave is determined by which self seeded corral you are in. Line up in the corral that best fits your mile pace.  By using the corral and wave starting method, the pack will be spread out and allow every runner to settle into their racing rhythm from the first step right to the finish line.

The top three finishers in each age group will receive a Turkey Trot medal in the mail about 3 weeks after the race. In addition, the first place winner will receive a $25 gift card to Sports Basement, while the second and third place winners will receive a $10 gift card to Sports Basement. Age groups are: 9 & under; 10-13; 14-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70+

Kaiser Permanente 10K Wheelchair

The Turkey Trot is proud to present the 10K Wheelchair event sponsored by Kaiser Permanente. Awards will be given out to the top three male and female athletes in the Wheelchair event. To qualify for prizes in the 10K Wheelchair race, you must start at 7:45 am. Otherwise, you can line up with friends and family to go at a slower pace. Please line up in the wave start that best represents your mile pace.

Please follow the following guidelines for your safety and enjoyment.

1.     Wheelchair entrants are permitted ONLY in the 10K race. You will start at 7:45 a.m.

2.     No mechanical gears or levers are allowed. The chair must be manually propelled. In accordance with national and international wheelchair rules, NO handcycles, handbikes, or other mechanically gear driven devices are permitted in the race.

3.     Only one plain round hand rim is allowed for each rear wheel. This rule may be waived for persons requiring a single arm drive chair.

4.     All chairs are subject to a rules and safety inspection.

5.     Runners and walkers in all races have the right of way. Wheelchair racers must yield to runners or walkers.

Amgen Men’s Elite Invitational 5K and Silicon Valley Bank Elite Women’s Invitational 5K

Ranked as one of the fastest and most competitive courses! Check out this article.

This race is by special invitation only for qualified elite/invited athletes. For consideration, please contact Elite Athlete Coordinator Mark Winitz.

An Elite 5K prize purse totaling $12,100 will be awarded, plus $10,000 in U.S. record bonuses is available. See prize money breakdown below.

New Course
Steady growth of the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot into the largest fully-timed Thanksgiving Day race in the U.S. (19,432 total finishers in 2013) has made it impossible to continue our tradition of separate courses for elite athletes and general race participants.

Elite athletes loved our spectator-friendly elite athletes’ course consisting of four loops that we used for the past eight years. Starting in 2014, all 5K race participants, including elite athletes, will compete on a single USA Track & Field certified one-loop course. Separate races for elite women, followed by elite men, will start before the mass participant waves. To view a map of this year’s 5K course, click here and then click on the second map on the list.

Both elite races take place concurrently with the respective Pacific Association USA Track & Field 5K Championship women’s and men’s races, giving PA/USATF athletes an opportunity to run with world-class competition.

In addition to elite race prize funds, overall winners receive a commemorative trophy. The second place and third place men and women, plus first master (age 40 and over) athletes receive medals.
