Race-day Services: Palmer College of Chiropractic Sports Council
For the fourth year in a row, the Sports Council from Palmer College of Chiropractic’s West Campus in San Jose will serve as the primary sports care provider of the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot.
Palmer’s West Campus, founded in 1980, is the California branch campus of Palmer College of Chiropractic (www.palmer.edu) in Iowa, the profession’s oldest chiropractic college, established in 1897. Nearly one-third of all chiropractic doctors are Palmer graduates, who serve patients world-wide as primary care professionals for spinal health and well-being.
Complimentary care, provided by Sports Council doctors and interns from the Palmer Chiropractic Clinic in San Jose, will be available to anyone with a Turkey Trot bib number from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Sports Council tent (situated in the expo area, located within the Guadalupe Park meadow, adjacent to the starting line).
Founded in 1994, the Sports Council at Palmer College of Chiropractic’s West Campus has helped athletes of all skill levels reach their peak performance (and reduce the risk of injury) through both pre- and post-event care, which can include:
- Sport-specific injury evaluation
- Chiropractic adjustments
- Stretching
- Soft-tissue therapy
- Kinesio Taping
In addition to the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot, the Palmer Sports Council has served as the primary sports care provider at many other premier sporting events in northern California during the past 18 years, including:
- Sea Otter Classic cycling festival
- San Francisco Bay Area Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure
- National and Bay Area Senior Games
- U.S. Half-Marathon, Kaiser Half-Marathon, Race to the End of Summer Half-Marathon
- San Jose State University rugby club
Sports Council interns from Palmer College’s West Campus have completed extensive training in both on- and off-field settings as well as specialized course material focusing on sport-specific injury evaluation and treatment protocols.
All Sports Council members are CPR-certified, and have received specialized instruction for responding to and assisting with common athletic emergency situations.
