The Evaristo Family Story – A Turkey Trot Tradition
Adam Evaristo inquired early in 2015 about the Turkey Trot hotel discounts offered to 2015 participants who stay in San Jose. We had responded at the time that we had not secured the details. Mr. Evaristo was very patient, checking in every few weeks to see when he could book his hotel room. We inquired about his persistence and learned about his family’s Turkey Trot Tradition. Here is what he shared – and yes, he was the first 2015 booking for a discounted hotel room for 2015!
“The Turkey Trot has become a family tradition for my wife (Norma) and 2 kids (Lauren- now 5 y/o and Eldrich- now 18 y/o). We are from the East Bay, CA. It’s fun because its a tradition for us to stay 2 nights at the Fairmont hotel. We also have had Thanksgiving dinner close by at McCormick & Schmicks and this year will be our 3rd annual family tradition.
Eldrich (my son) has volunteered for 2 yrs in a row with the Second Harvest Food Bank and I arrive with him at the race @5AM. Given the early check-in time, it’s easier for us to stay at the Fairmont Hotel the night before. He also sometimes volunteers at the expo at Sports Basement. This year will be our 3rd annual family tradition.
Lauren (my daughter) has participated in the Kids Fun Run for 2 yrs in a row. It’s amazing to be able to participate with her because she was not able to stand on her own until she was 2 yrs old as she has cognitive and physical disabilities due to a rare chromosome disorder called IDIC-15.
We check-in to a nearby hotel (Fairmont), carb load close by, rest up, wake up early to pick up our race packets down the street from the hotel. Then on race day, I do the 10K and meet my family at the finish line, then I take my lil one to the Kids Fun Zone and then we do the Kids Fun Run!
Exercise not only improves physical abilities but helps with cognition as well as mental and spiritual strength. Healthy = Happy!”
